CONSIDER THIS

Any of these sound familiar?

IN the Business vs ON the Business

“I used to love my role in the business, but now I spend all my time firefighting. For every task I cross off my To-Do list, I add three more. I wish we could free ourselves up from urgent tasks so that we could work on important, strategic goals. ”

Key Person Dependency

“Our operation relies heavily on a few key individuals. No one could ever buy the business with this key-person risk. If they left, it would take months to fill the void.”

Centralized Decision Making

“Our team is full of skilled contributors who perform their tasks effectively. However, when it comes to making decisions, it all comes down to me and a few others. I want my team to feel independent and resourceful, but for some reason, they don’t feel empowered.”

Remote Team Challenges

“I loved the idea of being a fully remote business - it’s the future. However, I underestimated the challenges of not being in the same room as my team every day. It requires comprehensive systems and processes, which we don’t have.”

Process for the Sake of Process

“Years ago, we recognized that we were no longer a start-up and needed to develop systems and processes. However, the systems that we developed weren’t intuitive or efficient. It feels as though we’re working for the system instead of the system working for us.”

Costly Hiring Decisions

We keep on hiring A+ Players that don’t work out. We get so excited about the candidates during the hiring process and become optimistic that they’ll take the business to the next level. We’ve been let down a few times now, and I’m starting to think the problem is with us.”

Manual Processes

“Our systems were built for where we were 3 years ago. Back then, manual workarounds weren’t a deal. Now, with double the headcount and triple the revenue, our operation is slowing us down. Our team could be much more productive with more sophisticated systems.”

Delegation Challenges

“It takes me longer to delegate a task than to do it myself. I know I should be investing in the long term, but I just can’t trust others to do things the way I would do them.”

Ineffective Onboarding Processes

We put off hiring important team members, not because of cash flow or strategic considerations, but because the onboarding will take too much time. We need a more streamlined onboarding workflow so that our new hires can get up to speed efficiently.”

Collaboration Between Siloed Teams

“Our teams are working in silos, and it’s causing problems. They’re not communicating effectively, and it’s leading to duplication of effort and missed opportunities. We want to break down these barriers and create a more collaborative environment, but we’re not sure how to do it.”

New Technology Challenges

“We’ve invested in new technology, but we’re not seeing the results we were hoping for. It’s not integrating with our existing systems as seamlessly as we thought it would, and our employees are struggling to use it effectively. We want to get the most out of this investment, but we’re not sure how to make it happen.”

SOP Documentation

Remove the guesswork from your day-to-day workflows with step-by-step guidelines built specifically for your operation. The Escala consultants will interview your team members to gather all the relevant information before delivering your SOPs in the format of your choice. Our proven process enables our consultants to execute highly detailed and accurate SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) with minimal input from your busiest team members.

Operational Audit - Findings & Recommendations

Benchmark your operation against your direct competition to find out what you’re getting right and where you’re getting left behind. Escala will dive deep into your workflows to pinpoint your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Within weeks, we will deliver a polished presentation that analyzes your People, Process, and Technology, identifying what can be delegated or automated, and offering a detailed implementation plan for improvement.

Process Re-Design & Integration

Say goodbye to operational inefficiencies and bottlenecks. Following the Operational Audit, Escala holds your hand through the implementation of the recommendations to design a future state that optimizes the productivity of your team.

Project Management
Tool Implementation

Increase visibility and eliminate micro-management simultaneously. Escala implements your workflows into a Project Management Tool to create a centralized environment for your operation and trains your team to leverage the platform successfully. We can implement the Project Management Tool of your choice, but our favorites are ClickUp, Monday, and Airtable.

Organization & Accountability Chart Design

Reduce confusion for your entire team through an Accountability Chart design. Identify the future trajectory of your operation and build a hiring roadmap for key roles. Ensure that roles are organized by accountabilities rather than tasks to empower your team to work backward from business outcomes.

Customized Company
Wiki Creation

Escala’s KPI is that any person in the organization should be able to find the answer to any operational/organizational question within 15 seconds. Your company wiki is only as useful as it is intuitive; it needs to be easy to use at the moment of call. Leverage Escala’s experience building wikis for companies like yours to supercharge your team.

Onboarding Plan

The first 90 days of a new hire’s journey will determine their success in a role - don’t leave it up to chance. Simply relying on shadowing and self-learning is not enough to ensure they get off to a strong start. Leverage Escala’s SOPs and Company Wiki to build comprehensive Onboarding Plans for your new hires that will set them up for success from Day 1.

KPIs & Performance Management

Don’t leave your employees guessing! Work with Escala to design effective Performance Management mechanisms that improve and motivate your team. Establish predictable KPIs and performance goals to inspire your team to maximize their contribution to the business goal.

New Technology Integration

Implementing new technology with significant operational impact can make or break a business. As your implementation partner, Escala will make it a sure thing! After interviewing your team to understand the use cases, Escala will work closely with the software company to customize the tool to your needs, document the SOPs, and train your team to use the tool effectively.

Ongoing Dedicated Support

Like with any new habit or practice, it can be awfully tempting to fall back into the “old way of doing things.” In those moments, Escala catches you before you fall, to make sure your business systems are always up and running.

The systems of the corporate sector meet the creativity of the start-up world.

Escala fundamentally believes that the impact of expert process improvement consultants should not be reserved for the Fortune 500 alone.

Escala’s Management Consultants come from Process Improvement Advisory positions in the Big 3 and Big 4 consulting firms, influencing some of the largest corporations in the world.

Today, they are dedicated to professionalizing your small business.

FAQ’S

Popular Questions

1. Who is Escala?
Escala is a Management Consulting agency that was founded in 2020 to revolutionize the way that small/medium businesses approach scaling. Since 2020, Escala has optimized or redesigned the internal operations of over 100 businesses of all shapes and sizes.

The vision was simple - SMBs need operational improvements the most. The founding team is focused on building and growing; the last thing they need is to get slowed down by operational bottlenecks and inefficiencies.

However, building those capabilities in-house is complex and potentially premature, and only large corporate enterprises can afford the exorbitant rates of the Big 4/Big 3 process consulting firms. So we cut out the middle man, to democratize the value of getting a trained set of eyes on your nitty-gritty processes.

Escala delivers assignments and achieves business outcomes with the same level of attention to detail and customization as the large consulting agencies, And we love working with small/medium businesses to help them unlock their true potential. As our founders always say: “it’s easier to course correct a jetski than a cruise ship”.
2. Who will I be working with from the Escala team?
Escala’s growing team of 30+ Management Consultants are all from the Philippines and have previous experience in Process Improvement consulting at one of the Big 3/Big 4 consulting agencies (eg - EY, Deloitte, McKinsey, Accenture). Since transitioning to Escala, they have become trained experts in working with SMBs, as well as specializing in specific verticals, such as eCommerce, Supply Chain, M&A, etc.

Typically, we will allocate project teams that comprise a combination of Engagement Managers, Senior Consultants, and Junior Consultants, who are solely dedicated to your business throughout the implementation project. This level of attention to detail and focus generates an unparalleled level of customization in our solutions. Our clients absolutely love our consultants, who constantly prove that they’re willing to go above and beyond to improve their operational efficiency.
3. How do I work with Escala? Is it a subscription service or a one-time project?
Escala’s approach is broken down into an Implementation Project and an optional ongoing retainer.

The Implementation Project comprises 3 Phases (Assess, Design, Integrate), and elevates your business to a baseline level of process standardization and documentation. Additionally, the Implementation Project includes a detailed presentation of Escala’s Findings and Recommendations, coupled with a thorough implementation timeline that includes a careful approach to change management.

Once the Implementation Project is complete, some clients feel empowered to maintain and optimize their deliverables on an ongoing basis. However, others prefer to retain a layer of support to ensure they don’t fall back into their old ways. As such, we recently launched the Escala Accelerate program, which allows clients to work with the same Management Consultant at a lower cost (≈20% of the monthly cost of an Implementation Project) on an ongoing basis. This allows clients to leverage Escala to stay in control of their operations, keeping process documents up to date, conducting professional training and onboarding programs for new team members, and ensuring that your systems are accelerating your growth.
4. I don’t have any systems or processes in place. Can I still work with Escala?
Not a problem! We love working with all types of businesses, especially the types of businesses that need us most. We thrive in making order out of chaotic operations. Even when some founders think they have no processes at all, there is generally an adopted way of working within the team, which we love to uncover, standardize, document, and optimize.
5. I already have some systems and structures. Can Escala help me improve it, or do we need to start from scratch?
Absolutely! We will examine all of your current state systems during Phase 1 - Assess, and leverage it to accelerate and enrich the following phases.
6. Can I work with Escala on one department of my business, or do I need to engage Escala on the entire operation?
Yes! Escala’s deliverables are modular in nature, which means that you can pick and choose which internal core functions you would like to include in the scope. For example, you may want Escala to only focus on your R&D team.

The only thing to consider is whether there are too many overlaps and cross-dependencies in your operation that will make segmentation too difficult. Occasionally, small businesses really are too small to break down into siloes.
7. I’m not interested in findings and recommendations, I only need help with process documentation. Can Escala help me with this?
Absolutely! While we do believe that you would appreciate our Findings and Recommendations, we recognize that some clients are really only interested in documenting their internal processes and procedures. As Escala’s deliverables are modular in nature, you’re able to select which components to include, and we’ll build you a customized proposal accordingly.
